My mom does not know it, but she has the uncanny ability to receive free items. She was able to get me a free slice of pie at Denny's by complaining to the waitress in the most pleasant of ways. I'll explain.

In her order she asked for grits, but when her meal arrived they were missing. The waitress said that they would be ready in a minute, and that she would bring them out. The waitress did as she said, but sadly my mom hated the taste...claiming that it was the "instant" microwavable kind. When the waitress arrived to take away the empty plates she asked if the grits were good, since they were the only thing my mom left on her dish. My mom said, "the meal was excellent, but the grits were not as fresh as I had hoped...next time I'll have to order them in the morning when the grits are made in a big batch". Man my mom is slick because the waitress responded "Oh I'm sorry...you know what? To make it up to you I'll give you a free slice of cake...want a cheesecake to share?"

I'm glad my mom was full, she let me have her free slice.
